IoTMADLab attends the presentation of the Digital Twin project of the city of Madrid

The Digital Office of the Madrid City Council has held an information day at the headquarters of the College of Civil Engineers, Canals and Ports in which it has presented the Digital Twin project of the city of Madrid, with which the City Council intends to optimize decision making. The general coordinator of the Mayor’s Office, Inmaculada Sánchez-Cervera, was in charge of welcoming the participants of this day in which a demonstrator of the Digital Twin of Madrid was used.

The Digital Twin is one of the commitments acquired as part of the Digital Transformation Strategy of the Madrid City Council, which is called ‘Madrid Digital Capital‘, and which has as one of its three main objectives to provide intelligence to the city, with data-based management. The project consists of generating a virtual reproduction of the city and its services to carry out simulations and analyze the impact on the planning of new public policies, and on the operation and management of services. Thus, for example, the impact on the lives of citizens of any work, infrastructure or new service can be assessed prior to its implementation. In addition to improving the quality of life of its inhabitants, the Digital Twin contributes to optimizing decision-making by applying emerging technologies for hyperconnectivity and hyperautomation.

The objective of this day, in which the dean of the College of Civil Engineers of Madrid, María Dolores Esteban Pérez, and the director of the School of Civil Engineers, José Miguel Atienza Riera, have also participated, has been to share the progress made to date. moment in the development of a Digital Twin of Madrid, explaining the ongoing projects and showing demonstrators that illustrate the different use cases, as well as the work plan for the coming months until its launch.

With the contributions of the technicians of the Digital and IT Office of the Madrid City Council (IAM Madrid), a Digital Twin demonstrator has been presented, with which possible applications can already be advanced in multiple real cases, such as for example when analyze the flows of public and vehicles in a large event such as the Three Kings Parade, the traffic variables on the Bailén Bridge, mobility in the Landscape of Light and the surroundings of El Retiro Park, or in future developments such as Madrid New North.

The IoTMADLab was present during the session, in which the ‘Madrid Digital Capital’ strategy was also presented, in which the Digital Twin project is framed, as well as various transversal projects promoted by the City Council’s Digital Office. At the same time, and thanks to the collaboration of various experts from the College and School of Civil, Canal and Port Engineers, the communications company NTT DATA, EMT Madrid and the Digital Office itself, success cases of digital twins in other cities.

With the Digital Twin, the intensive use of city data and collaboration between relevant actors, key to the digital transformation and innovation of municipal services, Madrid will become a City 5.0 and a benchmark for other cities. national, and European in this area, due to its impact on people and the environment.
