The General Directorate of Innovation of the Madrid City Council visits IoTMADLab

On September 5, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Telecommunication Technology Association (TTA) of South Korea and the European INSTAR project. This agreement seeks to establish international standards for advanced technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and 5G and 6G networks.

The meeting, organized in the framework of the INSTAR project, a European Union strategy that collaborates with countries such as the US, Japan, South Korea and Australia, brought together important players in the field of emerging technologies. The signing of the MoU marks a milestone in international cooperation to develop global standards that facilitate interoperability and technological progress in these sectors.

The Madrid City Council, represented by Fernando de Pablo, General Manager of the Digital Office, participated in the briefing, which explored potential key collaborations and joint opportunities between the City of Madrid and South Korea’s TTA and promoted the standardization of Smart Cities solutions. Also participating were Fernando Álvarez, Deputy Director of Digital Transformation. D.G. Digital Office at the Madrid City Council, Antonio García de la Paz, Secretary General of Data Strategy, Juan Jesús Muñoz, Head of IoT – 5G Service and Celia Tenés García, Technical Advisor at the Directorate General of the Digital Office. The Polytechnic University was represented by Victor Robles Forcada, Vice Rector of Strategy and Digital Transformation, Manuel Sierra Castañer, Director of ETSIT – UPM and Asun Santamaría, Director of IoTMADLab.

On behalf of TTA, Seunghyun Son, President of the Association, Daejung Kim, Vice President and Kihun Kim, Director of Global Cooperation and Joey Lee were present. Tanya Suarez, CEO of BluSpecs, Damir Filipovic, Secretary General of AIOTI, Antonio Kung CEO of Trialog and Brendan Rowan, Head of Tech, Policy and Skills at BluSpaces represented INSTAR. Carlos Lopez Rodriguez and Rolf Riemenschneider, members of the European Commission, and Zhuohua Chen, Head of European and International Policy Projects at CEN-CENELEC, also participated in the meeting.

This collaboration underlines the importance of strategic partnerships in digital transformation. The agreement with TTA will allow Madrid to advance the implementation of smart technologies, modernize public services and strengthen cybersecurity in the city and boost collaborations with European and Korean institutions. The meeting concluded with a guided tour of the Palacio de Cibeles facilities, where those present were able to enjoy the history and views of the city of Madrid.

With this type of collaboration, the Madrid City Council continues to promote the efforts framed in the Madrid Digital Capital strategy, to boost the innovative ecosystem of the city and the creation of digital solutions that improve the quality of life of citizens.
