12/12/2024

The objectives of this agreement are the implementation of physical and virtual spaces for innovation and excellence of digital services, with special focus on those in which communications networks and IoT are applied, to establish a model that allows the deployment of open, neutral and interoperable services and networks that promote the digital transformation of municipal services with the citizen as the focus.

This agreement promotes experimentation and deployment in real demonstration environments in the city of Madrid (Smart Urban Spaces) to test new solutions and services.

During this period, the results have been so positive and the synergies so favorable that after evaluating the possibilities of continuing to extend it as planned, the two institutions have decided by mutual agreement to enter into a new agreement with a much broader economic scope and areas of activity.

The agreement currently operates with the following permanent working groups:

  • IoT: with the deployment of smart urban spaces as real and productive demonstrators of the impact resulting from hyperconnectivity and hyper-automation and the design of a generation of services for a 5.0 city:
  • 5G for the configuration and development of the 5G-6GMADLab and the deployment of 5G corridors as demonstrators to accelerate the application in public and private services.
  • City Cybersecurity – OT with the direct coordination of the Cybersecurity Center of the Madrid City Council.
  • Data and AI with the participation of Data Science Lab. Rey Juan Carlos University.

In addition, this new agreement incorporates a governance model based on challenges, with the participation of multidisciplinary teams from the UPM and other universities, municipal technicians, Digital Delegates, awarded companies, startups, telcos, and representatives from Madrid universities and other collaborating European cities.

It also works with international standardization bodies and alliances, such as OMA (Open Mobile Alliance) to define interoperability frameworks for digital services, AIOTI (Alliance for Internet of Things Innovation) and DIGIT (Directorate-General for Informatics), respectively.
